Our Roots
Founding Story
The inspiration for Lily's Voice began upon a visit to Nagpur, India to see my grandparents. One thing I began to take note of was that there were tons of stray cows and dogs.
One particular stray dog continued to sleep in front of their apartment with a leg semi-permanently tilted at 45 degrees. It appears that he was run over by a scooter or car and that the broken leg had healed incorrectly. Yet he still gleamed with joy and kept wagging his scrawny tail when I would feed him by hand. I named him “Langdya” or the limped one.
Being captivated by the stark living conditions of the stray dogs and cows in contrast to what I had witnessed in Canada, I vowed to return to help Langdya and many other stray animals like him.
However, I quickly realized that the problem was bigger than simply looking at animal welfare. People too were suffering and terrified. There was conflict that needed to be addressed in a holistic manner.
Therefore, in honor of my dog and friend Lily, I decided to call the org Lily's Voice so that her legacy may live on and her voice may be used to bring positive change.
